About Archeoricette

Cibi e ricette nell'antichità — foods and recipes in antiquity

The Project

Archeoricette is a cultural project founded and run by Generoso Urciuoli, an archaeologist and food historian. It brings together archaeology, culinary history, and hands-on experimentation to explore what people ate across the ancient world — from Mesopotamian kitchens to Roman banquet tables.

The project reconstructs and shares ancient recipes and foodways, drawing on historical texts, archaeological evidence, and scholarly research. Each recipe and article is an invitation to taste the past through carefully researched ingredients and techniques.

Archeoricette has also been a platform for public engagement: guided tastings, conference talks, and book presentations that brought ancient flavours to modern audiences across Italy.

The kitchen has long been the heart of the home, and the way we design and use it continues to evolve with every generation. From the warm character of a butchers block to the clean lines of modern wood cabinets and white surfaces, today's culinary spaces balance function with beauty. Sleek black tiles, stylish curtains, and thoughtful lighting transform an ordinary room into something genuinely inspiring. Whether you favor a contemporary split-level layout, a cozy condo kitchen, or a spacious dining combo, the details matter — from coffee measurements and coat racks to whimsical accents that make a house feel like your own.

Exploring how people lived and ate in antiquity offers a fascinating lens on our own modern kitchens and dining habits. The same impulse that drives us to seek out beautiful tableware, arrange a welcoming living space, or experiment with new recipes connects us to cooks and homemakers across history. Archaeological evidence reveals that food has always been about more than sustenance — it is about gathering, sharing, and creating memorable experiences. By blending ancient culinary traditions with contemporary design ideas, we can appreciate how timeless the pleasures of a well-prepared meal and a thoughtfully arranged home truly are.
